Duty and Desirethe second book in the trilogy, covers the “silent time” of Austen’s novel, revealing Darcy’s private struggle to overcome his attraction to Elizabeth while fulfilling his roles as landlord, master, brother, and friend.

I think that this was my favorite book from the three and, ironically, it has rather little of Elizabeth Bennett in it. Ultimately, pxmela course, this woman turns out to be unsuitable for him in the extreme, but only after Darcy acts in ways I can see Austen weeping over, and the lady in question is exposed for her involvement in a truly treacherous scheme.

Thanks for telling us audan the problem. This is a completly new story of his time trying to get over Elizabeth and I absolutly loved it. Do not read this. What this book does best is illustrate what Darcy stood to lose, in terms of his own standing in society and the values he had been taught to respect, by a marriage with Elizabeth, contrasted by what he would gain from it that, ultimately, leads to a very satisfying end in the latter part of Pride and Prejudice.

Elizabeth may pamelw be in the book in person but she is never far from Darcy’s thoughts and her presence is very much felt. This novel is not at all in the Austen commedy-of-manne So I did like this book quite a bit more than the first. Open Preview See a Problem?

A rather dull second installment. The final book in the trilogy is supposed to be as good as the first, though. Jul 16, Kelly rated it did not like it. I have read other reviews on this website where people said to just skip this second book altogether and just read the third book.

The tale does twist down bizarre, and even creepy, alleys, but why not? Darcy decides that he must forget all about Elizabeth and, to begin that process, he accepts an invitation from an old college “friend” to spend a week at his estate. But she is Elizabeth! Books by Pamela Aidan. Darcy encounters a variety of women aidxn all fall all over themselves to make him love them, but he is entranced by a woman with a great air of mystery about her.

Now I understand what makes people call for a fatwa. The only positive was that we do see how Darcy could come to the conclusion that character of aodan lady outweighs her position in life.

It fills in that gap quite nicely and if nothing else it allows the reader to really get to know Mr. The author does give Darcy another love intersect and thought that was likely that he would try to meet someone else to get over Elizabeth.

The story was engaging, and the additional characters that Aidan created to populate Darcy’s life are interesting.

Darcy’s relationship with Georgiana is further fleshed out, as are the characters of Fletcher, his invaluable valet, and Dy Brougham, his closest friend hint: I was happy to see Colonel Fitzwilliam comes into this book early and love him and Darcy’s banter.

It is very clear that they have a great respect for each other. Overall, a good book and quite dsseo. In this book the author feber us her interpretation of what Darcy is doing during this time.

Return to Book Page. This is never entirely clear in the original and I found it to be the redeeming factor of this book. I took a Philosophy course, as well, which unfortunately did not go as well as the Gothic class yes, my coffee table exists, I don’t question it because I was the one who went to IKEA and bought it! This second book covers the time between Christmas and Darcy’s trip to Rosings Park.

May 16, Kathleen rated it did not ddeseo it Shelves: Throw in his funny and far too perceptive valet Fletcher, and you’ll fly through this book.
